The Shining Title Sequence
Art Direction: Brian Cassidy
Deliverables: Motion Design, Illustration
Stanley Kubrick's 1980 "The Shining", is a cult classic film about a man who takes his wife and son to an ominous hotel, where he descends into madness as they fight for their lives. The movie is rich with symbolism and imagery, particularly that of a maze. This title sequence focuses on the idea that the entire movie is in and of itself a maze, with winding hallways and characters around every corner.
12 illustrations represent the 12 names of cast and production, from Jack Nicholson's hatchet to Danny's Apollo 11 sweater. A limited color palette and stippled texture make the icons feel vintage and ominous.
